HELP GLEANERS AND WEINGARTZ “MOW DOWN HUNGER” TO RAISE
1 MILLION MEALS TO HELP HUNGRY CHILDREN THRIVE IN SCHOOL
School Food Mobile Pantries
School Food Mobile Pantries provide nutritious, healthy food to students and families at 70 low-income schools. At every visit, Gleaners supplies 75-100 families with enough fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean protein to supplement each family for a month. Gleaners currently makes approximately 90 school visits every month.
Throughout the school year, thousands of hungry kids at more than 40 partner schools receive Gleaners’ BackPacks filled with fruit, vegetables, healthy proteins and grains to supplement well-rounded meals over the weekend.
For more than 40 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities." Annually, Gleaners reaches 430,000 food insecure individuals with nearly 43 million pounds of nutritious food, equivalent to more than 35 million meals, through nearly 500 partner schools, soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 97 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor. For more information, visit www.gcfb.org
Feeding America West Michigan
Since 1981, Feeding America West Michigan has served as West Michigan's regional nonprofit clearinghouse for saved, donated food on its way from the food industry to churches and charity agencies that assist needy people.
The food we distribute is drawn primarily from the surpluses and edible/useable errors of local and national food and grocery products companies. Through our seven warehouses, we serve 1,300+ food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, domestic violence shelters, rescue missions, and other charity agencies across 40 Michigan counties (the western third of the Lower Peninsula and entire Upper Peninsula) who in turn provide that food aid to approximately 100,000 needy families of West Michigan each year. In 2009, we distributed over 24.5 million pounds of food and other goods, that's over a million pounds every 15 days.

Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community by: reducing food waste through the rescue and distribution of perishable and non-perishable food, coordinating with other hunger relief providers, educating the public about hunger, and developing new food resources.
Food Gatherers is not only Michigan’s first food rescue program, but the first program of its kind to be founded by a for-profit business, Zingerman’s Delicatessen. In 1997, Food Gatherers also assumed responsibility for the county food bank. Today, it is an independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization governed by a board of directors and operated by 22 staff people and more than 5,000 different dedicated volunteers. Food Gatherers is now the primary distributor of food in Washtenaw County.
